Because of the difficulty getting appointments to get our rescue cats altered in a timely manner, we recently launched our pre-spay/neuter adoption program. The cat you are interested in may be part of this program and will have at least it’s first FVRCP vaccine, a microchip registered to us and will have been treated for internal and external parasites. Please fill out our screening form and after reviewing and confirming your information, our adoption counselor will reach out to you to explain the process.

When we first posted Cleo's picture, we were told she had a diaphragmatic hernia (from birth).  What this means is that her diaphragm wasn't formed properly and her lungs, liver, intestines were inside her diaphgram.  We were told that surgery would probably kill her and with this condition, she could live to be however old a cat can live (8, 10, 15?) in discomfort, with labored breathing, but that the anesthesia would probably kill her.  We weren't even able to spay her for fear of killing her.
Following a routine visit on the 7th of February, Dr. Rick of Park Avenue Animal Hospital suggested that we take the chance, despite an 80% chance she would die during surgery.  After discussing the situation, we sent her off with a prayer and she did come through the surgery.  Successful outcome means she will be able to breathe normally, and live a "normal" cat life.
Cleo tells her story to date:

I’m a sweet laid back kitty.  I spend most of my time napping, but I enjoy sitting by the sliding door looking at the sights.  I’m an observer and don’t often get involved in household antics, such as my canine friends playtime.  I love quiet time with my foster mom, who makes sure I get plenty of attention.  I love to have my neck and head scratched.  As mentioned in my special needs description, I’m looking for a quiet stress free home that I can live in comfortably.

Once Cleo recovers from her surgery and we're sure she is out of the woods, we will get her spayed and hopefully someone will love her as much as we do to give her a forever home.
