Surrendering a Cat or Kitten(s)

What do you do when you can no longer keep your cat or you find a cat?

For cats adopted from Candy's Cats. If you adopted your cat or cats from our organization, we want them back if you can't keep them anymore. The original foster home that they came from may no longer be available so we ask that you please give us as much advanced notice as possible so that we can plan to make room for them. We made a commitment to the cats who have already been through our rescue program so the returning cats are our first priority for intake. Please go to candyscats.org/forms Returning CCI Cats and a volunteer will get in touch with you within 24 hours.

For personal cats and found stray cats. Our availability for the intake of new cats is dependent on our foster volunteers and whether there's space available in one of our foster homes. CCI is a foster home based rescue group; we do not have a shelter facility.

Before we can accept a new cat, we need for you to take the cat to your nearest vet and have it scanned for a microchip and combo tested for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia. The combo test is an inexpensive test and this step is mandatory. Once you've done this, please complete the intake form at candyscats.org/forms Intake Request.

CCI will respond as soon as possible but please realize that, depending on volume, it may take 24-48 hours to receive a response. You can expect to receive a response from this same email address.

Other options available

    •    Other rescue groups. There are many rescue groups within the Orlando area so you can check with some of the other groups to see if they have space available. You can go to www.petfinder.com, look for the menu option for Find a Shelter, and use the search engine to find all rescue groups by zip code, distance, etc.

    •    The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is a no-kill shelter. They will only accept owner surrender pets. https://petallianceorlando.org/pet-services/surrender-pet/

    •    Orange County Animal Services is an open intake shelter. They have established a foster network to help kittens so they do accept kittens who are weaned and weigh at least one pound. The pregnant stray cat that you found and any cat over five (5) years of age are at high risk for euthanasia. When their time is up, if they aren't adopted they will be euthanized. Kittens under 2 lb. will be euthanized as they have limited resources to care for them. If you can keep them until they reach 2 lb. that will at least give them a chance for adoption.

    •    There is a Facebook page called Central Florida Courtesy Cat/Kittens Listings. It was created to accommodate those who want to list their cats for adoption. Please read the "About" section on the website for the details on how to post. The link is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Central-Florida-Courtesy-CatKitten-Listings/220087281476762. Listings on this page have nothing to do with Candy's Cats, Inc.
